The essentials: ingredient conversions

One of the most difficult parts of cooking is figuring out how much of an ingredient you need for a recipe. Sure, the recipe may say you need 1 cup of chopped onion, but how many onions does it take to make 1 cup? Or you need 1/2 cup butter but you don’t know how many tablespoons of butter equal 1/2 cup (as a point of reference, one stick of butter is 1/2 cup). Wouldn’t it be nice if there was one place where you could find those conversions? Well, look no further.

This section will provide you with 5 handy charts, compiled from various cookbooks and sources on the web, that will help you figure out how to convert ingredients. A printable version of some of these charts can be found here.
